Three primary school pupils died of suspected food poisoning at a Mpumalanga school on Monday.
Three primary school pupils died after eating food at the school and reportedly sustained food poisoning. The students complained of stomach pain and nausea before being rushed to a local hospital. There are currently ten pupils from the same school who are also being treated for food poisoning.
In a statement issued late on Monday night, spokesman Jasper Zwane said the three Nelson Ngubeni Primary School pupils died in the afternoon. The department deployed officials to the hospital to be with learners and parents.
Education MEC Bonakele Majuba will visit the hospital and the school on Tuesday morning, Zwane said.
“The visit will enable the department to get a full report of what happened and to determine the course of action to be undertaken.”
