The three accused of kidnapping six-year-old Amy’Leigh de Jager last month has returned to court for a ruling on their bail application.
Magistrate Hussain Khota has delivered judgment in their bail application.
Amy’Leigh was snatched outside her school in Vanderbijlpark on September 2, 2019. Human, a suspended Laerskool Kollegepark Grade RR teacher, was a close friend of the De Jager family.
The State opposed bail, arguing that their release would endanger society, Amy’Leigh and themselves.
The ruling on 11 October 2019 is as follows:
The judge read out the various aspects taken into account for considering bail applications of the three accused.
Bail for Tharina Human has been denied and she will return to custody.
Laetitia Nel’s bail has been granted of R25000. She may have no communication with any key witnesses. She is to report every Wednesday to Vanderbijlpark police station and to hand over her traveling documents.
Pieter van Zyl has also been denied bail and will return into custody.
A fourth accused, Bafokeng Molemohi, has abandoned his bail application.
