A Swiss tourist was airlifted to hospital after an accident in the Kruger National Park on Sunday.
The accident happened after a minibus taxi knocked a fully grown giraffe into the path of the Swiss tourist’s rental vehicle.
The 18-foot tall giraffe which weighed about 1,650 lbs fell on the tourist’s vehicle, seriously injuring the driver. The passenger suffered minor injuries.
Medical personnel stabilised him at the scene before airlifting him to hospital. His condition has been described as stable.
Unfortunately the giraffe was killed in the accident.
Police will be conducting investigations and circumstances that led to the accident
